displayshow is a multi-tenant digital signage platform: run screens at any location centrally from the browser — from a single shop-window display to a distributed fleet. Concept, development and operation from one hand.
What the platform does
- Central management — maintain media, playlists and layouts in the browser; changes appear on all displays automatically.
- Two player types — low-power Raspberry Pi players for on-site displays, plus virtual web displays opened by link, with no extra hardware at all.
- Images, video & slideshows — optimised automatically; folder-linked playlists update themselves as soon as new media arrives.
- Scheduling — plan content by weekday and time; displays switch themselves on and off at set hours.
- Live control — online status, a preview of what is currently on screen, and remote restart straight from the admin view.
- Several clients, cleanly separated — multi-tenant with roles and permissions; each client sees only their own content.
Built to need little maintenance
Players connect encrypted over a private network, run a hardened operating system and come back on their own after a power cut. That sounds like a detail, but it saves exactly the site visit that otherwise makes digital signage expensive.
The technology behind it
A Python/FastAPI backend with PostgreSQL, separated per tenant. The Raspberry Pi players run as a Wayland kiosk with hardware-accelerated video and connect over WireGuard — entirely self-hosted.
